Meeting Preference: On-Campus (but off-campus works too)
Availability: I'm most available Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Tuesday and Thursday are when all of my classes are, and as such, scheduling anything on those days would be extremely difficult, though I'm willing to try if it's the only time you have available. In general, preference is given to Monday and Friday, because weekends are weekends, but again, I'm flexible.
Hourly Rate: $15-22 ($15 Linguistics/Chinese, $20 Math, $22 Chemistry)
About
The first lesson is at half my posted rate, because otherwise you have no motivation to try me out and see if we're a good fit, and I think that's perfectly reasonable.
Hey! I'm a first second year Master's student in the linguistics program here at the University of Iowa. I got my undergraduate degree in Linguistics, but also have degrees/experience in Bio-Chemistry, Mathematics, Formal Logic, Chinese, Teaching English as a Second Language, Accounting, Computer Programming, and Piano. I tend to be good at the things I enjoy (and terrible at those I don't) because my brain fixates on things it finds interesting. I'm currently teaching ESL Credit Listening, though last semester I was the TA for Language and Formal Reasoning. In general, I've been told my explanations often make more sense than those given by (many) professors, and I think a large part of that is simply due to the fact that being a student isn't a distant memory for me, it's just the life I'm currently living. I have endless patience, will work with anyone, and in general, like to believe I can teach anyone, regardless of their experience or background. People have all different kinds of strengths and weaknesses, and one-size fits all approaches are hamfisted imo. So, if you're interested in a more custom-tailored tutoring experience, give me a shot.
