About Success in Rhetoric (SiR)
Success in Rhetoric (SiR) is a free resource that helps you figure out how to be successful in your Rhetoric course. You can drop-in for help with papers, speeches, projects, reading assignments, or anything else related to RHET:1030, RHET:1040, or RHET:1060. No appointment necessary!
Spring 2023 Availability:
Tutoring will start Wednesday, February 22.
Note: Tutors will be unavailable the week of spring break and finals week.
Wednesdays 1:30 - 3:00 pm, 3:30 - 4:30 pm
To access SiR virtually during these hours, click on the following link: https://apps.its.uiowa.edu/swipe2/site/sir/signin/virtual/success-in-rhetoric-virtual-tutoring.
What to Expect
You’ll meet with a fellow student (the SiR mentor) who did well in Rhetoric. The sessions are informal, and you can attend as many as you like. If you choose to attend virtually, you may be placed in a Zoom waiting room until a mentor is available; the wait should be minimal.
How to Prepare
Arrive with any Rhetoric-related questions and/or questions related to a major assignment at any stage (understanding the assignment prompt, brainstorming, deciding on a topic, researching, analyzing, drafting, revising, etc.) To receive feedback, you may be asked to email the major assignment description/draft to the SiR Leader’s University of Iowa email account. Decide if you want to give the SiR mentor permission to email your Rhetoric instructor—to briefly inform the instructor of your visit and what you worked on together.
